The real obstacle

It's not the value of the workshop. It's the price you see.

Almost all owners look at the fee, do a quick mental calculation and put it off. The problem is they're looking at the wrong number.

€

“It costs too much”

You look at €6,499 and stop there. But that figure isn't what actually remains on you.

?

“Will it be deductible?”

No one puts it in black and white for you, with the law article and the exact limits.

📄

“My accountant will want the paperwork”

And you don't know which ones you really need. So you postpone, and then you forget about it.

⚠

“What if I get it wrong?”

Without the correct documentation, you risk losing the tax benefit.

The solution

Training is deductible. Travel and accommodation too.

L’Article 54, paragraph 5 of the TUIR (Italian income tax code) provides for the deductibility of enrollment expenses for training courses, professional development, conferences and congresses — including related travel and accommodation expenses — up to a limit of €10,000 per year for each professional.

In addition, theVAT is deductible (Presidential Decree 633/1972) if the transaction is related to the professional activity and is properly documented and invoiced.

The bottom line: the fee you see isn't the figure you actually pay. The real cost can almost halve.

“The effective cost takes into account the VAT deduction and the tax deductibility of the taxable base.”

The questions everyone asks us

Legitimate doubts, clear answers

Does it also apply if my pharmacy is an SRL?

Yes. The reference rate changes: with IRES at 24% the effective cost of the €6,499 workshop drops to €3,859.28, instead of the €2,819.57 of an SNC/SAS with IRPEF at 43%. Both scenarios are in the document.

Is there a limit to how much I can deduct?

Yes: Article 54 paragraph 5 of the TUIR sets the limit at €10,000 per year for each professional, for training and development expenses (including related travel and accommodation).

Do the flight and hotel really count too?

Yes, if they are expenses related to attending the training event. Revenue Agency Circular no. 7/E confirms the extension of deductibility to accessory expenses strictly functional to the course. That's why tickets and hotel receipts are needed.

And do I recover the VAT?

VAT is deductible under Presidential Decree 633/1972 for transactions related to the professional activity, provided they are properly documented and invoiced. In the workshop the fee is split between ECM (22%) and workshop/travel/accommodation (10%).

What exactly do I need to give my accountant?

Six documents: SFI invoice, official ECM program, ECM credits certificate, flight tickets/boarding passes, hotel invoice or receipt, and proof of traceable payment. In the PDF you'll find the table with the tax purpose of each.

Are these figures guaranteed?

They are a sample calculation based on the rates indicated and are indicative: the result varies depending on the individual tax regime. The document is meant precisely to give you the breakdown to check together with your accountant.
